Traditionally, the European Patent Office (EPO) has reviewed its official fees every two years to account for inflation, and for the most part this has resulted in fee increases. Recently, however, we have seen fee reviews in consecutive years, with increases of around 3%, 5% and 4% in 2022, 2023 and 2024 respectively.
The EPO has confirmed that there will be no inflationary adjustment to its fees in 2025 and that the biennial review will likely resume in 2026.
This is of course good news for applicants generally; and additionally means that the pressure to pay fees earlier, to avoid any increase, is not necessary this year. If you have any questions or would like advice on fee payments, please consult with your usual Forresters attorney.
