Niama Knapp
Trainee Patent Attorney
Niama joined Forresters in 2022 and is currently working towards becoming a fully qualified UK and European Patent Attorney. She is also a member of Forresters’ Equality and Diversity group and Women in IP.
Niama has gained experience throughout her training with filing and prosecuting patents right through to grant. She has also gained experience working with attorneys from around the world, widening her understanding of global patent systems and portfolio management.
Niama has a background in pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacology. Before joining the IP profession, Niama gained first-hand experience in a hospital-based pharmacy environment and offered bilingual client support in the medical supplies industry. She is able to assist clients in a range of technical areas including pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
Niama works with a broad spectrum of clients ranging from startups to established large corporations. She enjoys working with different types of clients because it results in varied work and experiences.
After graduating from the University of Ghent with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Niama moved to Glasgow and obtained a Master’s degree in Advanced Pharmacology from the University of Strathclyde. Her final project involved analysing the NF-κB pathway, more specifically looking at IL-1β’s role in the immune system’s inflammatory response to harmful stimuli.
Niama loves the outdoors, and can often be found hiking, wild swimming, paddleboarding, snowboarding and playing rugby in her free time. Visiting new countries and exploring the world is important to her, and she hopes to see more of the world in the future.
