Food Technology & Agriculture

Advances in food technology and agriculture have brought a fundamental shift in how we produce and consume food.

We represent major brands, a global food, ingredients and agricultural solutions provider as well as many SMEs using food ingredients to improve public health, or create alternatives to traditional meat production.

The world of food technology and agriculture comprises a wide variety of technologies, requiring a diverse knowledge base. We understand the wide-reaching applications that technology in this space can have on the industries they impact; from new machines that revolutionise the way we maintain and harvest crop yields, to food additives that combat allergies and make products suitable for consumers with health conditions like diabetes.

Our collaborative approach with our other sector teams means we are well-equipped to help our clients explore new and exciting areas of this sector. This includes the use of digital technology in a “smart farming” capacity, as well as working towards a more sustainable future, drawing on our extensive knowledge of green technologies. We are prepared to help our clients face both current and future challenges and support emerging technologies, including the development of environmentally friendly alternatives to pesticides, methods of combating crop disease, advancing climate-resilient crops and more.

Our team is proud to maintain a long-term relationship with Fonterra, a globally recognised dairy co-operative with several well-known brands to their name, including Anchor, Mammoth and Primo. Our team has represented Fonterra throughout a series of opposition proceedings to great success, defending their patents and successfully revoking the patents of competitors.

We were also pleased to assist C-Paste Limited in patenting their SweetAble ingredient, created to combat high levels of sugar, fat and calories in food for the benefit of all, but particularly those with diabetes. Our team prepared UK patent applications, which were granted for the formulation and the associated manufacturing method. C-Paste is working closely with major food manufacturers and local authorities and expects that products containing SweetAble will be launched in supermarkets and included on school lunch menus.
