Emma provides an all-around service for many clients – this includes carrying out freedom to operate reviews, recommending strategies for reducing infringement risk, opposing competitor patents at the EPO, representing clients in oral proceedings, and other contentious matters. She also carries out a significant amount of original drafting work and obtains patents, trade marks and registered designs around the world for her clients.

Emma enjoys the challenge of working on difficult cases and takes pride in achieving grant of a patent where chances have seemed slim. She has also represented clients at oral proceedings where the initial oppositions have been prepared by other attorneys. She likes to look at a case from every angle, and it is satisfying to achieve a result that a client needs.

Specialisms

Her background is in Physics and Astrophysics. Since joining the patent profession, she has worked on a wide range of technologies, from cleaning products to clothing, printing apparatus to off-highway vehicles and truck brake systems, medical devices to domestic hardware and appliances, and process control systems to furniture.

Emma has a broad range of clients, including sole traders and multi-billion dollar international organisations. She deals with direct clients in the UK and abroad, as well as working with associates in countries throughout the world.

Interests

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, travelling in the UK and abroad. She has volunteered with Girlguiding UK for over 25 years and organises weekly meetings, days out and camping trips for girls aged 10-18.
