Jagvir advises clients on all aspects of obtaining patent and design protection. He enjoys working with his clients to understand their businesses and then help develop and deliver a tailored strategy that best captures value from their intellectual property.

He is an honorary lecturer at the University of Birmingham School of Physics, where he originated a workshop as part of the undergraduate program and co-ordinates a student competition. He also enjoys being an IP mentor to support entrepreneurs and start-up companies on local entrepreneurship programs and technology accelerators including Birmingham Enterprise Community.  Jagvir regularly delivers workshops and training for businesses and organisations involved in innovation including as part of the UK IPO’s regional Commercial IP Masterclass for businesses.

Work Highlights

A substantial part of Jagvir’s practice is drafting patent applications, prosecuting patent applications to obtain patent protection in the UK and beyond, IP strategy, and resolving patent or design disputes. He is highly experienced in all areas of patent prosecution including post-grant oppositions and appeals at the EPO.  A case of note is leading a successful opposition on behalf of a client opposing a major competitor’s patent.

Before joining Forresters, Jagvir was a technical manager and oversaw development of intumescent fire retardant coatings where he needed to ensure all relevant IP was captured.

He has also advised at board level in relation to IP strategy through a post on the External Advisory Board of the UK Quantum Technology Hub for Sensors and Metrology which is a +£100 million project delivered by several major universities including the Universities of Birmingham, Glasgow, Nottingham, Southampton, Strathclyde and Sussex, and over a 100 industry partners. Jagvir has also been a trustee on the board of well-known local mental health social enterprise organisation as well.

Technical Specialism

Having trained as a physicist, Jagvir is able to turn his hand to many areas of technical expertise. He has worked with clients in fields such as nuclear and naval marine valves, oil field technologies, aerospace, wearable technology, additive layer and advanced manufacture, medical devices, domestic consumer products, fuel cells and quantum technology.

Jagvir’s Clients

He works with a range of clients and organisations in terms of both size and technologies. Primarily he works with entrepreneurs, start-ups, SMEs and multinational companies. Jagvir enjoys learning about the businesses he is advising and effectively acting as a team member to proactively support his clients. He has also assisted several university spin-out companies post spin-out from university.

Personal Interests

Out of the office Jagvir can be found mostly running after his two children, and (less so) training in the gym or playing the tabla!
