Forresters were proud to support the University of Chester’s Venture Programme again this year, as both a sponsor and participating in the judging panel at the annual Venture Pitch competition.
The programme celebrates innovation and supports student entrepreneurs by providing an opportunity to gain experience preparing and delivering pitches for their business ideas. Entrants to the flagship Venture Pitch competition were also in with a chance of winning a portion of a business support package valued at over £20,000, including a trade mark consultation and fee contribution from Forresters.
A broad range of ideas were on display this year, from commercial innovation, initiatives to support community engagement and wellbeing, access to shared spaces and more.
Among the prize winners were Sam Hill and Thomas McIntosh, founders of Eyepatch Games Ltd., who are currently working towards the release of their first Role Playing Game, SunTide.
Returning to the judging panel this year was Forresters Senior Associate David Murphy, who told us:
“I was once again delighted to be invited to join the judging panel for this year’s Venture Pitch competition at the University of Chester. The new format this year, which had categories for both first time entrepreneurs and returning start-ups from previous years, took the event to another level. The standard this year was exceptionally high, with students presenting innovative business ideas backed by thoughtful planning and a clear understanding of what it takes to bring a venture to market.
It was particularly encouraging to see both the first time entrants and returning entrants considering the importance of building and protecting their brands from an early stage. Registering a trade mark can be a vital step in safeguarding a business’s identity as it grows, and it is a pleasure to provide our expertise to this year’s winner Eyepatch Games Ltd. We look forward to supporting Sam and Thomas as they continue developing their business.”
