Equality and Diversity

Equality & Diversity

We are proud of our dedicated workforce which keeps us moving in the right direction.

We recognise the importance of an inclusive and diverse workforce, and we are committed to ensuring that Forresters is a workplace where everyone feels welcomed and supported, regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, socio-economic background, disability or sexual orientation.

Launched in 2020 with HR and partner support, the Equality & Diversity group promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion within the firm, aiming to create a more equitable and inclusive workplace for all. Today, the group is made up of a broad team of employees across our four offices, with a range of job roles and levels of seniority.

Our Equality & Diversity goals:

To foster a truly representative environment for all our colleagues. To help Forresters be a leader of equality and diversity in our sector. To ensure every voice and experience in our firm is listened to.

We are proud of the initiatives we have implemented, including introducing a gender-neutral language policy, and giving everyone the choice to display their preferred pronouns, both within the firm and to the outside world.

To support colleagues with neurodiverse conditions and disabilities, we have implemented a Read & Write toolbar to assist with reading and written comprehension. Our website has been designed with ease of use in mind, and contains essential accessibility information for all of our offices.

We also work closely with our HR team to raise awareness of holidays and important dates of many religions and beliefs, reflecting the diversity of our staff.

From International Women’s Day to Pride Month, we host engaging internal events such as book clubs and movie nights to observe these occasions. Employee participation in these celebrations highlights our commitment to an inclusive and informed workplace.

We also influenced an overhaul of our family policies and staff benefit packages to include more inclusive wording, along with improved benefits for employees.

IP Inclusive

We are proud to be chartered signatories of IP Inclusive, an initiative that brings people together from across the IP sector to promote and improve equality, diversity, inclusion and wellbeing within our community.

A number of our partners are long-standing members of the senior leaders’ forum at IP Inclusive, and have helped to devise and set in motion various initiatives including:

  • carrying out a wide-ranging “benchmarking” survey to see how the profession is represented with respect to age, race, gender, and level of formal education, to discover where the profession is at the moment, and track how things change and improve over time;
  • creating a set of best practices for firms to follow, regarding such things as recruitment performance evaluation and reward, training and career development; and
  • raising awareness of the patent and trade mark professions among a wider range of potential recruits, in particular those in currently under-represented groups.

We also participate in IP Inclusive’s “Careers in Ideas” mentoring scheme, which aims to improve accessibility to the IP profession and attract a more diverse range of recruits.
