Emily Tutt

Associate

Emily is primarily involved in patent prosecution at the European Patent Office and the UK Intellectual Property Office. She also has experience in drafting applications, and in opposition and appeal proceedings at the EPO.

Her main highlights involve overcoming objections at the EPO in order to get patents granted. She has also enjoyed working on opposition proceedings, appeals, restorations and third-party observations.

With a background in physics, Emily is able to work on patent matters related to a broad spectrum of inventions. She most often works on mechanical inventions, but also enjoys working on a wide range of innovative technologies in the field of physics, such as medical devices and optical inventions.

The clients Emily works with vary in size, from individual local inventors, to SMEs and even larger multinational corporations. She enjoys the unique challenges each client presents, and finding tailor-made solutions based on their needs.

She holds a master’s degree in Physics from Lancaster University. For her master’s project, she used near-infrared spectroscopy to measure oxygen saturation in the brain, and then analysed how different physiological processes caused oscillations in the oxygen saturation. Emily regularly puts the skills she honed during her studies into practice with her work in the field of medical physics.

Emily enjoys tap dancing, musicals and trying out Liverpool’s restaurants.
